Once upon a time, at the tender age of 10, my aunt let me in on a little secret: braiding! And just like that, my love for hair was born.
As I grew older, I put my newfound skills to the test, experimenting with different hairstyles on my family and friends. Soon enough, I was able to turn my passion into profit, starting with my first customer, my godsister. That moment gave me the confidence to pursue a career in beauty school. But, as fate would have it, life got in the way, and I had to drop out to care for my mother, who was battling cancer.
After her recovery, I packed my bags and headed to Virginia for a fresh start. There, I worked hard as an apprentice in a salon during the day and attended classes at night. My dedication paid off, and my braiding skills quickly gained attention, leading me to build a loyal clientele. But, like all things in life, I yearned for more. I didn't want to be known as just a braider.
So, I moved back to NYC, determined to learn more about hair and rebuild my clientele. And boy, did it pay off! Now, after 23 years of hard work, I'm thrilled to share my knowledge with my clients on proper natural hair care. It's been a journey, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
